Been a While - So here’s the Joker

Posted in Uncategorized on January 12th, 2008

Here’s the Joker - I’ve been putting together a Goldskull charity comic for a couple weeks now, and that’s taken up most of my time. I’ll keep posting here as often as I can; I’ve got some Jessie Thunder related sketches, so I’ll get those up soon.

Jessie Thunder

Posted in Uncategorized on November 16th, 2007

Remember when I said that Goldskull was pretty much dead in the water, and that a new project was taking its place? - You know, last post? This is the new plan. Jessie Thunder - The World is Mine! is a kid-friendly comic that I’m doing as my next Bomb Shelter exclusive strip, and I’m also going to serialze it over at the new Comicopia Online, a new non-profit that seeks to get kids reading good, clean comics. The goal of the group will be to eventually put together a collection of our best work and distribute it, for free, to schools across the country.

But enough about that, you probably want to know about the comic. Jessie Thunder is a child prodigy who just happens to be a megalomaniac; she wants to rule the world, and could very likely do it. However, she plans to do it after college; Jessie wants to get a PHD so her title of “Dr.” will be legit - she hates those poser mad scientists who claim the title of doctor without having earned it. However, she’s not the only one with aspirations for world domination, and there are a number of supervillains that could make a run at global control, and Jessie has taken it upon herself to stop them.

Boris

Posted in Uncategorized on November 12th, 2007

Now here’s Horace’s counterpart, Boris. They’re both just about eight feet tall, and are powerful enough to demolish a small European principality in a few minutes. (not that they will) I know it’s kind of cliche to go with the red and blue color schemes, but it works for me. I can work with those colors well enough.

Horace is the more intellectual and passive of the bots, and, judging by that stance, it’s fairly obvious that Boris is the more agressive one. He likes to fight, and that’s all there is to it.

Horace

Here’s a design for Horace, one of two robot characters for a new project I’m developing for the Comics for Communities initiative. Suffice to say, Goldskull is pretty much dead right now; I may go back to it later, but for now I want to do something more family-friendly.  I miss that old magic from the Cute Ninja Girls days, and I feel like I can get that with this project - more info will come on that.

I’m sorry I haven’t posted much. It’s a combination of a heavy workload and some exhaustion - health and school comes first, you know? Things are getting better, and I’m drawing more regularly, so there will be plenty to come very soon. Thanks for sticking with me.

Crag Hailey - Another Original Design

Posted in Uncategorized on October 13th, 2007

Another original character for the Goldskull U. I’ve got a story where Goldskull gathers a couple other hired guns to tackle a big job, pretty much creating a very dysfunctional team. Crag’s the big guy of that group, and I wanted him to look the part. Huge body, (I love drawing brute types.) big boots that scream “stomp”, and rocky skin.

Knockout

Another anciallary character for the Goldskull universe, Knockout is on par with Superman and is hands down the most powerful superhero on the planet. I’m not entirely sure if this will be the final version of the costume, but it’s working so far.

Hero by Night

Did this as a fan art for DJ Coffman’s Hero by Night. Since he’s a huge Jack Kirby fan, the generic bruiser villain has a major New Gods feel to it.

Fantastic Four and Some News

Posted in Uncategorized on September 27th, 2007

I took a shot at the Fantastic Four - always liked these characters, even though Mr. Fantastic’s a jerk.

Also, I’ve been working on a major section of The Way of the Geek’s how-to guide for webcomic production. You may have already seen the first entry, and the second one’s a beast; I’ve been creating art for examples like crazy for the visual concept chapter. We’re hoping to collect the final result into a proper book that we’ll distribute, hopefully, for free.

Anthem

Posted in Uncategorized on September 23rd, 2007

This is Anthem, a supporting character in the Goldskull universe. Credit for his creation goes to my good friend Jason, who came up with the concept. I’ll admit I tweaked the idea, Jason, changing the sword to an energy hammer. It just doesn’t seem too heroic to slice up the bad guys; blunt trauma works better for that. Powers include flight, psychic generation of his energy hammer through his staff, and the ability to redirect energy attacks.

I’ll tell ya, the costume was a pain to design. Armor isn’t my strong point, so I wanted something that I could handle from multiple angles consistently, and I think this works. Some silver, white, and a touch of regal purple, and voila.
