BitArtist 1.1 Around the Bend

That’s right, version 1.1 is almost here. There have been some requests for features and I’ve decided to go past those and offer even more. Instead of just giving the author the default dropdown menu for your archive and the ever-requested calendar page, I’ve added a listed page of all strips and controls for the archive in the admin dashboard.

You can now also change the date format, order of strips in the archive (ascending/descending by ID or date), some control over the calendar, and we’ll even throw in a “new version” notification at no extra charge so you can keep current on the latest version of BitArtist. Not quite enough of a change for me to rev it to the next version, but it’s a pretty good head start.

BitArtist Version 1.0

BitArtist is now at a stable release, version 1.0, and is ready for public download. It’s no longer stuck in beta-testing, although users are encouraged to report any bugs they find. If you’re running RC3, there’s no need to update to 1.0 as nothing has changed. If you’re running RC2 or below, however, you will need to upgrade to the latest release.

RC3 Now Ready

The third release candidate for BitArtist is out and available for download. This version contains bug fixes dealing with redirecting after login and logout, as well as an added function. As always, for more information, keep an eye out over on the BitArtist support wiki, and you can download the latest version of BitArtist here.

RC2 is ready to go!

Thanks to our beta-tester, ilitchev, for finding a huge bug in RC1. It’s been fixed now and released as release candidate 2. You can find the rest of the changes that have been made at the changelog and you can download the latest version on the CoderCorps.com site.

It’s done, release candidate 1 is ready for download and beta-testing. Bomb Shelter Comics is helping us get this thing off the ground. The entire project is being released under the GPL. The bug tracker is in place, the download is ready, and the support documentation is ready to go.

Screenshots and features

As promised quite a while ago, I’ve set up a page for screenshots. Ten screens so far.

I also wanted to mention some features I’ve picked up a long the way to help keep things a little more secure. We’re now using PHPASS for salted passwords (thanks to Wordpress for bringing this to my attention), there’s a challenge CAPTCHA before posting a comment for security reasons, and we’ve incorporated TinyMCE for ease of use and to cut down on XSS exploits.

Almost Ready

I know it’s been quite a while since there was any news breaking about what had happened with the BitArtist project. It’s not dead though, I assure you. In fact, it should be ready for its first release candidate next week. Pretty cool, huh? I’ll be posting screenshots of the backend soon. So keep your peepers peeled for some eye candy for your…eyes?

Break In Development

I had to take a break in development because of other apps I had to write on a very tight deadline. My previous engagements are now over and BitArtist continues on to glory!

Chugging Along

There is a good bit more done now, but it’s still not complete. I’m working on recoding the RSS dashboard application at the moment, and working up a couple other features. Things like rant/strip editing, user administration, and comments, I’ve already got the onboard theme editor coded and ready to go.

Hello world!

The development for the first release of BitArtist is coming along great. This release will be pretty bare bones, but features will be added and expanded in the next release. Don’t get me wrong, there’s still gonna be a good bit of features added into this one, but not as many as I’d like. I, however, am only one man and doing this all on my own, so I’ve had to sacrifice a few initial extras in order to make a release version before I turn 80.

Any of you looking for preview copies, sorry but it ain’t gonna happen. I’ll release it through Way of the Geek when it’s ready for launch and not before. In the meantime, enjoy a couple of screenshots I took while working on this to get it ready for the launch of one of my friend’s comics, Gold Skull. No images of his comic are used in the screenshots though, I don’t want to ruin the surprise.
