Recently, I stumbled across a repository on GitHub that I had forgotten about. This repo was information from the Department of Veterans Affairs such as programs, forms, homeless assistance resources, and the like. I found programs and benefits in this cache of data that took me years to find when I first got out of the military. So, I decided to build a website that would put all this information at the fingertips of the veterans who could use it. Information doesn’t do anyone any good if no one knows it.
The site, that I had written about earlier, is not as finished as I was claimed. I am working on rewriting the entire thing and migrating it away from local files and PHP to jQuery that will grab the remote JSON files. This should, I hope, keep the data as up-to-date as humanly possible. While the project is in its infancy, I hope that it will be useful for every veteran that finds it. We don’t really get much help finding programs to better us, aside from word of mouth between each other.
If anyone would like to help me with this effort, you can reach the organization and repository I have been building here.Tags: information, resource, veterans
