With Comic-Con dawning the sun on what looks to be another exciting year of comic books, we open this month with Mr.X – one of the creepiest and deadliest member of Wolverine’s enemies – who finds himself targeted by a very different animal – one that talks incessantly. Can the man who beat up Wolverine fare any better against Deadpool? Find out in Deadpool Team-Up #891.
While I’m not a big fan of Daken, the misplaced son of Wolverine, I of course like where he is in Franken-Castle #19 – about to beaten down by the one-time Frank Castle. Daken was the one who “killed” Frank Castle before his monstrous resurrection, and now Franken-Castle has a score to settle with Daken, leading to the mother of all monster mashes.
In Secret Avengers #3, the team continues their rescue mission on Mars, while exploring the origins of the Shadow Empire which is making its move on Earth in a big way. Is it enough to save Nova from the thrall of the Serpent Crown, and what does this have to do with Nick Fury leading an army of Snake Men back at HQ?
Uncanny X-Men #526 reveals a very different world for the X-Men in the aftermath of Second Coming, and this issue features the perspective of world-shakers like Cyclops, Emma Frost, Namor and Sebastian Shaw on the changing landscape of the Marvel Universe, as well as what it means for the mutant named Hope Summers.
And if you’re after a more classic style X-Men story, check out Chris Claremont’s X-Men Forever #2. The second volume has the world asking the question – what will the world be like without the X-Men? The answer is very mixed, but one of New York City’s biggest superheros will look in one of the most unlikely places for answers.
Well, that’s it for the Marvel picks – now onward to the DCU.
