Usually, this is the week I make it out to the comic book store, when there’s nothing left on the shelves or at least little comic out in there place. Will this be the week to pick up some more books or stay at home this weekend? I’ll let you know at the end of this rundown.
Stephen Colbert dons the cover of Amazing Spider-Man #573’s variant, but what exactly his role is in the comic remains a mystery. New Ways to Die has plenty else going on, including Spider-Man fighting against the Anti-Venom, Green Goblin and quite possibly Harry Osborn. How they hope to fit Stephen Colbert in all of that is beyond me, but definitely pick up the variant if you see it on the shelves.
When I last saw Captain Britain and MI:13, it was when Blade joined the ranks of the All-Brit teams - and promptly staked one of their members - a benevolent vampire - through the heart. Though there’s no clear jumping point in the second arc of this interesting book, this book certainly has plenty of hooks, and looks like another clear example of Marvel using its underrated characters wisely.
Guardians of the Galaxy #6 has yet another Secret Invasion tie-in, as the team races to stop betrayal and infiltration as the Skrulls attack their Knowhere headquarters. It’s hard to get too worried, with the team already slated to take a major role in the upcoming War of Kings, but with the same writers of Nova and aforementioned crossover on this book as well, its definitely one you want to pick up!
If you’re like me, you’re looking for Halloween-themed issues - so you might want to check out Monster Sized Hulk, which features the Hulk pitting against the original science experiment gone wrong - Frankenstein’s Monster! The cover looks pretty interesting, so I’d be sure to pick it up!
Young X-Men #7 debuts a brand new line-up. I liked what I read of the last two issues, so I’d definitely be willing to give this book a chance. After the events of Messiah Complex and going into Manifest Destiny, the X-Men could just a pretty big injection of new blood.
If you’re looking for more Legion of Superheroes action, be sure to check out Final Crisis: Legion of Three Worlds #2 which has the Legion of Superheroes teaming up with Legions from other dimensions to stand against a Legion of Supervillains assembled by Superboy Prime. The comic also features Saturn Girl uncovering the source of the Legion’s problems somehow.
Rogues’ Revenge also comes to a close. The last we saw, Libra was threatening the Rogues with the fate of their family. Libra wants the Rogues on his side to take care of the interference of any speedsters in the upcoming Final Crisis. Will he get what he wants or do the Rogues have something up their sleeves?
Justice Society of America #19 has the team starting to spin apart of the powerful Gog starts to change the world for the better - and various members of the Justice Society begin to wonder if his instant change is a good thing or a bad thing, especially since he’s the eventual creator of one of the JSA’s most dangerous enemies - Magog.
Superman and Batman Vs. Vampires and Werewolves #1 has the worlds greatest heroes teaming up to duke it out with the greatest monsters. This looks like a good Halloween treat as well, though I have question the need to make this a six issue series.
Overall, there’s plenty of good comics on the racks this month, but if you’re like me - and you love those Halloween-themed issues - you’ll be making another trip in the comic weeks anyway. There’s also a lot more Final Crisis/Secret Invasion action the table next week, so keep that in mind as well.

According to a recent interview I read with Joey Q. (sorry, but I cannot recall where), Colbert’s a legitimate contender for the presidency in the Marvel U. Since we’re little less than a month away from the real elections, I’m sure they just wanted to throw him on the cover to reinforce that.
