The Olympics is the epitome of sportsmanship, where atheletes display grace and civility while exciting a global crowd who come together once every four years in the ultimate contest. We’ve seen Georgian and Russian atheletes embracing one another, perhaps one of the most moving moments of the Beijing games. It’s not the place to kick a judge in the head. The officiating isn’t always perfect, and the integrity of the officals may even be compromised, but you just…never…ever…kick the judge IN THE FACE. For Cuban taekwondo competitor Angel Matos, it gets you and your coach a lifetime suspension from the sport. Unhappy after being disqualified from his bronze medal match, Matos launched a tirade for the ages.
Matos lodging his complaint to the official - this is barely acceptable:
And this is NOT how you do it:
Interestingly, that’s the same face the Spanish men’s basketball team wanted to make in those infamous photos, but the photographer told them to tone it down.
Stupid Level - 10 - If you lose it and embarrass yourself in front of a national audience, that’s dumb. If you do it in front of the entire planet, well, that’s much worse. It also cost this guy his competitive career. Matos avoids the rare 11 because that second picture looks like the greatest Nike “Just do it.” ad in history.

The scary (and sad) thing is, you just know some MMA group is gonna make a play for this guy now… Not UFC or EliteXC, they’re too close to the mainstream for that to fly, but one of the smaller “underground” fight groups.

I’m a black belt in TDK myself, and I find that the technique of that kick is horrendous, at best.
And, of course, the fact that he kicked the judge is even more horrible. If he’s the best that Cuba has to offer, then the TKD schools on Fidel’s island must be the worst in the world.
