The folks who bring you Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering, Wizards of the Coast, have decided to drop their social networking site, Gleemax. Stating that the decision was made to pull the plug on the site in order to focus more on Magic Online and D&D Insider. The site will shut down in September, a solid date has not been set as of yet.
In a blog post where the news was first made, RandyB says that WOTC isn’t abandoning the project but putting many parts of it “on the back burner for now”. As it turns out, WOTC seems to have spread itself too thin on this project and made “too much progress too quickly”. Here’s the direct quote from Randy:
We’ve made progress down about ten different paths over the past eighteen months, but we haven’t been able to reach the end of any of them yet.
On a side note, until this news came out I didn’t even know that WOTC had a social networking site. Maybe progressing too quickly could be less of a problem if you got the word out to more folks.

They never really seemed to publicize it. I knew they had something called Gleemax, but I never actually knew what the heck it was.
