Moving right into the Rundown, a year ago I would have laughed at the notion of the drunken baffoon Hercules taking over Hulk’s title, but now, I’m completely pleased with the direction Incredibe Hercules has taken. The series now Hercules, his buddy Amadeus Cho and a group of Marvel gods (dubbed the God Squad) trying to defuse Secret Invasion. Did I mention a Skrull puppy involved?
Marvel #1985 has one of the most bizzare premises, as the villains of the Marvel Universe target our own universe, and only a boy and his father can stop them from crossing over. Written by Mark Millar - who seems to have gotten his stride back after Civil War - this sounds like a pretty solid concept in the hands of a comic book superstar.
NEWSFLASH in Mighty Avengers #16 - Elektra is a Skrull! This issue presents the story of her replacement and infiltration, but given Elektra’s turn from anti-hero to villainess right up until her death at the hands of Echo, I can’t see there being many suprises here.
X-Factor #33 looks to be a Peter David miss-mash as the team runs not only smack into Secret Invasion, but another green machine - She-Hulk (whose book is also written by David). This has been a great book so far, so I just hope the crossover doesn’t complicate the already drama-filled lives of my favoriter X-Team.
On the DC side, Cassandra Cain has finally got her own book back as Batgirl, after disappearing before Infinite Crisis and reappearing as a brainwashed member of Titans East. Batgirl has conquered her inner demons and regained Batman’s trust as a member of the Outsiders. She had a pretty good ongoing series before Infinite Crisis, so I’m excited to see what this mini-series by Adam Beechen turns up.
Speaking of the Outsiders, the newest issue features Metamorpho’s return to Earth, as well as another Outsider - again not seen since Infinite Crisis - the Outsider Looker. Chuck Dixon is in top form on this solidly unpredictable book - this one should be in every fan’s pull box.
Final Crisis: Rogues’ Revenge looks awesome. It has my favorite villains - the Flash rogues lead by Captain Cold - going up against the Final Crisis baddie Libra after the newly formed Society of Supervillains start to break the rules of the blue collar rogues! Written by Geoff Johns, this series looks totally bad-ass - and also re-introduces Barry Allen right after Crisis on Infinite Earths.
That’s it for this week. A pretty slow week - mostly given the sheer number of “reprints” and “variants” covering the market, but definitely not without some cool titles.

I picked up the new “Batgirl” book, and… well, I’m afraid it just didn’t work for me. Batman seemed way too kind and, daresay, naive, about trusting Cass again. But then again, he’s Batman, so who knows what he’s really thinking. The writing, with it’s over-convoluted and over-wordy pages, just fell flat.
