I have a theory about Highlander. The first movie (starring Christopher Lambert, Clancy Brown, and Sean Connery), was pretty good. But I don’t think the people responsible for creating the series imagined it would get the attention it did, and never planned for sequels. Lo and behold, it became quite popular, and sequels were called for. That’s when it all went to pot. Then never could capture the magic of the original. Even the television series, which is one of my favorite shows, took a few seasons before it really began to grow into something good — and then it ended. The less said about Endgame and The Source (one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen) the better.
Despite all that, the original Highlander is going to be remade, presumably with new actors. At this point, it’s unknown if it will even feature the characters of The Kurgan, Ramirez, or Connor MacLeod (though it would be stupid to call it “Highlander” without, well… that dude from the Highlands).
We can thank Summit Entertainment for snapping up the rights to the franchise. If there’s any good to this, it’s that Peter Davis, one of the producers of the first film, will be producing the remake.
This one will have to do a lot to win me over. For example, map out one single continuity and stick to it! Secondly, go beyond the obvious choice of casting Colin Farrell as Connor MacLeod.

Thirdly, watch Highlander II: The Quickening. Study it carefully. Take copious notes. Then file all of those notes in a binder entitled “Things That We Will Absolutely, Positively NOT Do In This Project.”
