Good news on the comic front - or at least - good news for me. Our entry into last year’s Small Press Idol has just been published in the pages of Mysterious Visions Anthology #8. Order it now!
Self-promotion aside, it’s looking like a pretty good week in comics. Starting off with Marvel, the big news is Genext #1, a new Chris Claremont comic which follows the X-Men history in real time! I’m fairly excited about this one - I think poor Chris was shot in the foot during X-Treme X-Men with the sudden decision to abruptly bounce the book into regular Marvel continuity. This time, Marvel’s giving Claremont plenty of room to work, so it will be interesting to see what he comes up with.
The other thing, of course, is Guardians of the Galaxy - a new team book spun off of Annihilation, and starring Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon in the rest in monthly adventures - written by the same creative team as Nova! Annihilation is the most refreshing part of Marvel outside of Secret Invasion, so this is one galaxy I’m anxious to return to (unlike a certain galaxy which should remain far, far away)
Secret Invasion hits the Fantastic Four in Secret Invasion: Fantastic Four #1, which details the team’s struggle to survive after a Skrull posing as Invisible Woman pops up and drops the remaining members into the the Negative Zone.
There’s also a new book called Sky Doll - the English debut of a international bestseller by French comic publisher Soleil. The comic follows an android whose sole purpose is to serve the State of totalitarian society, until she is rescued by two “missionaries” and learns - forgive the expression - there’s more to her than meets the eye. Its an intriguing premise, and since its earned Marvel’s interest, its definitely worth a look.
And even though it took them long enough, they finally gave an X-Men: Origins book to someone other than Wolverine. X-Men Orgins: Colossus. Written by the New X-Men team of Christopher Yost and Craig Kyle, the comic focuses on a young Piotr Rasputin being targeted by the KGB.
Batman RIP starts in #676, and though the solicitations mention someone will die, it isn’t clear who exactly that will be. Batman #666 saw a future where a grown-up Damian Al Ghul wore the Batsuit after a Faustian pact, doggedly pursued by a Commissioner (Barbara) Gordon. Is this where this is all heading? I hope not. It wasn’t a nice future to begin with - and I certainly don’t want to live there.
Mostly pillaged by the events of Identity Crisis and Infinite Crisis, Justice League International does ride again the pages of Booster Gold #9, as the time-traveler gathers together his friends from all across time and space in a fight with Brother Eye. To see these characters together again, any plot device is worth it.
The Huntress gets her own book in Huntress: Year One. Honestly, I’m not sure this series is necessary - Huntress: Cry for Blood did such a good job of detailing the character and setting up her past that the Year One treatment may be retreading on old tales. Still, the art looks good, and most of the Year Ones have been exceptional so far.
As you can see, there’s plenty of comics to fill your hold box this week - see ya next!

Congrats, man. I know how hard you’ve worked on Pierced, and I’m glad to see it get into print. This is great news.
