Last year, we learned that Sony had pulled the Emotion engine out of the EU model of the PS3 and replaced it with software emulation of the chip, which seemed to be .
Joystiq wrote about how disappointing this was, particularly when it seemed as though Sony’s decision to remove the “software” emulation also included the removal of a supporting graphics processing engine. It seemed as though a gamer would really need to have a ps2 as well as a ps3 in order to play the entire library.
Perhaps not! Today, via Kotaku, we learn that the backwards compatibility is not as dead as one might have thought! How it might work, whether it would be an all software solution, or perhaps via downloadable PlayStation 2 games, is unknown right now, but at least there’s a glimer of hope still left!
