    Netscape Bound for Extinction
Posted by Migo on Feb 24th, 2008

Netscape will officially end support for their software on March 1st with the release of version 9.0.0.6 of their web browser software. Firefox, Thunderbird, and Flock are being suggested as alternatives to the dying software, according to this page. Netscape had this to say about the decision:

Given AOL’s current business focus and the success the Mozilla Foundation has had in developing critically-acclaimed products, we feel it’s the right time to end development of Netscape branded software.

If you still find yourself scratching your head with questions like “Will I still be able to use Netscape?” or “Who on Earth still uses Netscape?!” then you can find some of your answers at this post on the Netscape Blog. Although you probably won’t find an answer to the latter question because the answer is pretty much no one as far as I’ve ever met or heard.

My dad still uses Netscape, actually, because he’s never been able to find a way to move his old mail from Netscape’s client (vintage 7.2) to anything more modern.
