In November of last year I wrote an article comparing Blockbuster and Netflix side-by-side. Well, one of the major differences I listed in that article can be scratched off the list. Netflix has decided to go exclusively Blu-ray since most major studios are now releasing their formats exclusively on Blu-ray. They will be keeping their current selection of HD DVD titles, but will not be adding anymore to their inventory or ordering replacements for lost or damaged HD DVDs currently in-stock.
Those of you using Netflix with HD DVDs in your queue, be prepared to see those formats changed to standard definition. In an email I got form Netflix today they said that towards the end of February HD DVDs in your saved queue will be changed to standard definition format DVDs and toward the end of the year all HD DVDs in your queue will be switched to standard definition DVDs. Could this be a deciding factor in the HD format war or is this just another pain in the posterior for people with HD DVD players?
