It’s the second time this year bad weather has prevented me from snagging good comics. Thus, there’s no write-up’s in this week’s edition - which skips right to the actual “rundown.”
The Merc with a Mouth ends his latest tenure in the fiftieth and final issue of Cable and Deadpool, which guests guest stars Spider-Man, the Avengers and the Fantastic Four. Not sure if Cable will turn up though - I have a feeling Marvel will leave him MIA until his new series debuts post-Messiah Complex.
The Incredible Hercules #114 (not really sure what happened to the previous 113 issues) has renegade heroes Hercules and Amadeus Cho on a collision course with SHIELD. There hasn’t been too much good coming out of World War Hulk, but Cho’s role was interesting enough to give this one a read.
Tony Stark goes underdog as expected in Iron Man #26, which also, as expected, re-introduces the Mandarian right in time for this summer’s Robert Downey Jr. flick! With all that’s happened post-Civil War, Stark’s fall from grace wasn’t just expected - it was actually welcomed - but lately, the character is starting to revert back to his cooler, more sympathetic self.
There’s also the third issue of Ultimates 3 hitting stands today. I’m actually way behind in my Ultimates reading - I haven’t even finished Grand Theft America - but I’m comforted by the fact that this comic will probably disappear from the racks before I even set foot in the comic shop. Though I’m not sure how the new creative team - Jeph Leob and Joe Mandueria - is doing, I’d recommend picking this one up if you can.
Green Arrow joins the outsiders in Batman and the Outsiders #4. This is a slick and tightly-written book by Chuck Dixon anyway - inducting Oliver Queen to the lineup just makes it that much cooler!
Catwoman goes deeper and deeper into Salvation Run in the 76th issue of her solo series. Alone on a planet with the worst of the worst of the DC Universe, the current Crisis tie-in looks to redefine Catwoman’s place in the DC Universe. How does it tie into the cryptic hints dropped by DC already, and where do Martian Manhunter and the Joker fit into all of this?
The Justice League of America goes toe-to-toe with the Suicide Squad in issue #18. This is definitely an all-star effort - Dwayne McDuffie and Alan Burnett write, Ed Benes and JonBoy Meyers provide the art, with a dynamite cover by Ethan Van Scriver. Plus, of course, this all ties in with Salvation Run.
Robin #171 - also by Chuck Dixon - is rumored to bring back Stephanie Brown, aka the Spoiler - Tim Drake’s girlfriend and an ill-fated Robin herself. Not sure if the rumors are true or not, but the cover certainly holds something ominous for the Boy (and possibly Girl) Wonder.
That’s all for this week. I also just ordered trades of Mystic Arcana as well as Annihilation parts two and three, though I’m not sure if they’ll arrive by next week or not. Regardless, I’ll have write-up’s of all three in the near future.
