I just wanted to note that the “MacBook Air” does, actually, have 802.11 connectivity, as well as a USB port.
As for what it is useful for, think of a business traveler flying to a customer’s site to give a presentation on their product. This would be an incredibly light laptop to bring along, and incredibly useful, especially with the battery life it claims to have.
It wouldn’t be the ideal laptop for someone to use as their single machine, but I feel it’s worth a lot more than some sort of thought experiment.

I thought it might have had, but wasn’t sure and I didn’t want to say anything in case I was misremembering. I did think it weird that it wouldn’t have wireless at that size, though.
On another note… heh, I’ve never been “bleeped” before. Weird feeling to suddenly hear myself turning into Gerald McBoing-Boing… ;^)

I can definitely see this being useful for business people who are on the road a lot giving presentations and things like that. For the home user, however, I don’t see it being all that great. Not now at least, who knows what the future will bring. Like Devin said, the old iMacs caught a lot of flack for not having a floppy drive and now floppies are dead.
