Craigslist has been home to many of the more peculiar postings from the Internet, but this is the best one I’ve seen for quite some time. Last year, in November, someone from the Internet put out a call for help to save a dying breed. That breed is the “shell user”, which they claim is “facing extinction”. Let me give you just a taste of what this person has to offer.
Because there are fewer and fewer of us, I must help keep our lineage alive. I am looking for someone to help me do this. I need a woman (obviously) who is willing to raise a child with me in the method of Unix. Our child will be introduced to computers at a young age, and will be setting emacs mode before any other child can even read. I earn a sufficient income to support a family in modest comfort. Other than the fact our child will be bright, text-based and sarcastic, we will otherwise be a normal family. We will even go to Disney World and see Mickey Mouse.
I’m not sure if that last line is a promise, bargain, or some kind of incentive. I think you may want to read the rest of the posting for yourself. If you’re looking to save the animals, now may be the chance you need. Besides, how can you not love a nerd who uses “call fork()” as a euphemism for coitus?
Please ladies, if there is anyone out there willing to save the shell users let this guy know. He swears that the “whole ‘Microsoft Windows’ fad will fade away sooner or later”. Then where will we be? Apparently when Windows goes away we’ll all revert to the stone age instead of adapting. So, since it’s inevitable that we turn into neanderthals, I call first dibs on the big cave!

In that case, would the equivalent euphemism for interruptus be “Segmentation fault (core dumped)”? ^^;;

I doubt the “fad” will ever fade away, but I do hope that things will be a little more level in the future. Or at the very least that end users will be more informed and have better choices as far as cost vs. product is concerned. Unlike most Linux users, I don’t want Linux to take over the world. I just want it to get a fair shake.
