I’ve previously reviewed Brock Heasley’s The Superfogeys and gave this newer comic a raving review for its originality and execution of concept. Well, I feel an update is in order, as Brock has had some big things happen with the strip.
The Superfogeys has hit its one year anniversary, and is celebrating with a print deal with Th3rd World Studios. I sat down with Brock - sitting down meaning an e-mail exchange, and asked him about the history of his comic, and it was some interesting stuff, especially since the creation of the comic was almost a fluke.
The Cover to Superfogeys #1 - ain’t it great?
Brock had been experimenting with comicking on his MySpace account blog and had gotten some positive feedback for his work. One of his internet friends suggesting doing “something stupid like retired superheroes in a nursing home”. They laughed at the idea, yet Brock couldn’t get it out of his head, and then ran with it. Deciding to try out for Viper Comics, seeking a spot on the webcomics roster, he was able to maintain a schedule and produced his strips on a Monday-Friday basis. However, The Superfogeys was rejected by Viper. Still seeking to host his comic online, and having no knowledge of how to actually achieve that goal, he soon discovered Pixelstrips. After submitting a revamped version of The Superfogeys to the online comics host, he was enthusiastically accepted by the site. The Superfogeys still runs on Pixelstrips despite being hosted and published by Th3rd World.
Brock’s come a long way since those first MySpace strips. He was kind enough to share his first Superfogeys with me.

Now take a look at a current Superfogeys. Now there’s some development.

The Superfogeys is still a comic worth following, and I encourage my readers to order the print book, which contains the first two chapters of the comic. Brock’s stuff is great, and he really is dedicated to producing the best comic he can, and it shows. So go visit the Valhalla-Home for the Supertired; it’ll be the first nursing home that won’t depress you.
