Deadlines for Sysadmin of the Year nominations are Oct. 12 at 11:59PM PST. Persons wishing to nominate a sysadmin should use this form. Sourceforge, Digg, and a few other computing companies are sponsoring the event and the prizes look pretty darn good from where I’m sitting.
Grand prize winner takes home a Gibson Explorer guitar, an Apple Macbook Pro, a Splunk Enterprise License, and an all-expense paid trip to LISA 2007 in Dallas. Three Runners-Up will receive an Apple iPhone (hope you have AT&T), ten Honorable Mentions will receive a case of Red Bull energy drink, and the first 2500 nominees will get a 2007 SAOTY T-shirt. All this is directly from the prizes page.
This has got to be one of the goofiest contests I’ve ever heard of, and their mascot cracks me up. Being a sysadmin is a thankless job usually though, so it’s nice to see that they have their own “of the Year” contest. Besides, any contest that has a theme song and a chubby dude playing a Gibson Explorer is all right by me.
