Admit it - you’re surprised there’s a comic rundown before or not several days after Tuesday. Well, don’t get used to it - I’m just cleaning up the rundown now instead of later.
Detective Comics #837 looks interesting, if only because the one-shot spotlights two reformed rogues - the Riddler and Harley Quinn. But seeming as how reformation never seems to take for high-profile superheroes, it’ll be interesting to see exactly where the writers take this surprisingly dynamic duo.
Green Lantern Corps #16 continues the Sinestro situation as the Corps combat their counterparts on the surface of Mogo. If there’s one character I haven’t tired off in all the DCU - its Mogo - a Green Lantern who is quite literally a world onto himself.
Metal Man #3 deserves props if only for a contrived yet undeniably cool cover - it isn’t as awesome as last week’s foray into the New X-Men, but it shows at the very least they are trying, which is more than I can say for the vast majority of comic covers out there.
And for those of us still not quite sure about Renee Montoya’s recent turn as the faceless hero Question, there’s always Denny O’Neil’s classic take on the martial arts detective who inspired one of the most popular characters in Watchmen. The Question: Zen and Violence should be the gold standard for the new Question writers on where they should aim their sultry successor’s next series.
Its certainly not a good sign for Marvel when their first interesting pick of the week is HOWARD THE DUCK. The Ty Templeton seems A.I.M.ing (no, that’s no an error) where George Lucas left the anthropomorphic duck and buxom colleague. Will it be any good? Well, after Howard’s brain-munching cameo in Army of Darkness vs. Marvel Zombies, how could it get any worse?
And Iron Man fights Graviton while mourning Cap’s death. Yawn. How many issues past this months #22 until Marvel finally rolls out a kick-ass Shellhead in anticipation of the new movie next summer. They better do it soon, because the lame “I’m kinda sorry but really not about Civil War” Tony Stark is getting tiresome.
And ummm . . . that’s really it. Sorry guys . . . in a month which will supposed herald the much-anticipated (or just much-wanted) end of World War Hulk there’s just not really all that much at your local comic book store this week . . . save Howard. The Duck.
