Comic Rundown: Amazons, Arrows and Alien Shapeshifts
Posted by Richard Pulfer on Oct 10th, 2007

One question that’s always been nagging me is how exactly did Faust get out of Fate’s tower after Ralph Dibney sealed him there in death on the pages of 52. The answer: Black Adam. Black Adam: The Dark Ages #3 has the epicly angry guy making deals with the famous pact-maker to find the amulet of Isis. Oh yeah, and another old friend turns up - Hawkman!

If you’re as curious as I am as to what happened to poor Ollie after the wedding, be sure to check out Green Arrow/Black Canary #1. The issue forces Connor Hawke back in the limelight with the very person who jabbed an arrow in his mentor’s throat - Black Canary. Hmmm . . .  this should be awkward.

Green Lantern #24 looks unspeakably major as the title enters the second year of the revamp - the Sinestro Corps come to Earth, and leave a pretty big footprint, as the cover reveals. Sure, it’s nothing we haven’t seen before in Independence Day or Planet of the Apes, but the fact that this whole event appears in only two comics (the other being Green Lantern Corps) and not all over the place ala Countdown (which ties into every book DC puts out) gives me hope for the future of comics.

Unlike Green Lantern, however, Wonder Woman’s revamp has all but stalled over the past couple of months. Here’s hoping Gail Simone (Birds of Prey) can do better in Wonder Woman #13, which has the heroine picking up the pieces of Amazons Attack. I have a lot of faith in Simone - let’s hope she can carry on the mantle of WW as long as she did for the Birds of Prey team.

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #24 presents the second part of “One More Day”, this being Joe Q’s probable attempt to break up Spidey and MJ without resorting to death or divorce. While the Spidey books have need for a good kick in the pants, I have a feeling it’s not MJ’s fault but rather Civil War’s - it’s kind of hard to feel for a guy who needs a holographic transducer to walk around in public! Still, I’m interested to see how this mini-series turns out as JMS’ last ride on the Spider-Man comics continues.

And New Avengers #35 continues Wolverine’s fight with Hood. Or possesses him with Venom. Or both. And Tigra guest-stars, and apparently, it’s also nothing good for her. Man, this Skrull reveal has effectively sucked the life out of this series - Brian Michael Bendis better have a damn good Ace up his sleeve to get his show back on track.

Well, that’s it for this week - with Wonder Woman #13 and the next issue of One More Day, there should be at least more comics than last week to tantilate the senses.
