Zap2it, the television guide used by MythTV (who just released version 0.20.2 last week) and other PVR software like MediaPortal & GB-PVR, will cease offering free guide data on September 1st, 2007.
Schedules Direct and CT TV will both be stepping in to try and fill the void left behind by Zap2it, but neither are offering their services for free. The two services seem to be waging a price war right now, so it might be a good idea to hold out for now to see who is going to come out on top.
While current MythTV users may not be too swayed by this decision it will be interesting to see if anyone moves to PVR software like SageTV, BeyondTV, or Windows Media Center.
At the time of this post it is unknown whether or not any other alternatives are being explored, but if one can be found that was as solid as Zap2it and free to boot I may just cash in my old DVR.
