    Democracy In Webcomics
Posted by Migo on Sep 23rd, 2007

Usually, I try not to miss a day or two without posting, let alone over a week. I’m not without my reasons though, I’ve been working my tail off trying to get some coding done for an upcoming event.

Being part of Bomb Shelter Comics, we’ve got a bit of an unfair advantage, we get the news about what is going on inside the collective before anyone else does. And since we have four members of that comic group slaving away here, it’s usually a race to see who can post it first. Well, this time I won.

Bomb Shelter Comics is poised to launch their second annual “Webcomic Idol” competition on October 1st. They’ll be accepting webcomic submissions from the 1st through the 14th of October with judging for the Top 10 starting on the 15th.

Registration was done via email last year, but that won’t be the case this year. There will be a registration form made available to the public once registration is open that applicants will use to submit their comics.

After last year’s voting fraud fiasco extra measures have been taken to make the event a little more secure this year. Those who make it into the Top 10 can feel secure in knowing that their votes are being tallied by a custom-built web application created solely for the event.

Finally, as has become tradition, in the hopes of driving a few more eyes to each comic who sends a submission in, every comic recieved will recieve a link in the list of submissions made visible on the front page of the Bomb Shelter Comics website once the judges convene to decide the top 10.

Last year’s “Webcomic Idol” was so big that this year Bomb Shelter has a co-sponsor to help out with everything. Digital Strips has offered to lend a hand and a few bucks to make competition a little more robust.

More information is available at the Bomb Shelter Comics website.
