Okay, the first thing I’d point out for comic books this week is unlucky issue 13 for Justice League of America, which features the disastrous fallout from Green Arrow’s and Black Canary’s wedding. After already being blown up once, can’t Oliver Queen catch an honest break?
For those looking for more G.A. after the wedding shocker, I’ve heard good things about Green Arrow: Year One by Andy Diggle and Jock, which debuts its penultimate issue this week as well.
A new Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters mini-series also debuts its first issue this week. The last mini-series, which picked up the pieces of the shattered team post-Infinite Crisis, is certainly worth picking up on trades, and I have just as high hopes for this one.
Wonder Woman Annual #1 is noteworthy because it is written by Allan Heinberg of “Young Avengers” and “OC” - the mega-writer helmed WW into a new age after Infinite Crisis, but lackluster debuts and a series of delays all but crippled the development. So now he’s back to finish what he’s started. This is a good sign as Wonder Woman changes hands to Gail Simone soon - and could it also signal Heinberg is preparing to crank out a Young Avengers script any time soon? One can only hope.
Speaking of Young Avengers, Avengers: The Initiative sets up a whodunnit in the biggest training camp for superheroes on the planet. This is one title I’ve been meaning to pick up - maybe its about time I did so.
And if you thought Punisher tainting the legacy of Captain America was bad enough, wait until you see Deadpool soiling the name of Captain America with . . . well, you get the idea. How Deadpool is teaming up with either Bucky or Cap confounds me - unless it involves time travel of some kind. Hopefully Deadpool will get back to either confirming Cable really is dead, or at the very least, avenging his death after this distraction from the story at hand. Then again, Deadpool is at his best as a distraction!
And if you still need more Marvel Zombies . . . well, you are a very deprived individual! Because Marvel has also released ANOTHER PREQUEL called Marvel Zombies: The Book of Angels, Demons and Various #6, which highlights the origins of the zombie plague. What does this make it - 3 PREQUELS? Just release Marvel Zombies 2 already!
And X-Men #203 finally shows the true goals of the Marauders, as well as the X-Men preparing to launch a counter-attack. The issue also probes Beast getting dark and dirty as he continues his alliance with Dark Beast to try to save the mutant race.
Well, that’s it for this week. As you can see, there doesn’t appear to be much length-wise, but with new developments in Justice League of America, Endangered Species and other major storylines, this is certainly one week you don’t want to miss, comic book fans.
