On the heels of troubles marketing G.I. Joe to an international audience, good news for once surfaced about the troubled picture.
First off, Stephen Sommers is in the director’s chair, and has signed up from a February production start and a 2009 release. Sommers apparently pitched a version of the film and was hired on the spot. No news of what transpired to give away to rumors that Sommers had intially walked away from the director’s seat after salary disputes.
A new writer is being hired, calming fears of Skip Woods’ Cobra-less and mostly-ninja Snake Eyes-less first draft. Ahead of Variety’s report of Sommer’s inclusion and start date, Stuart Beattie of Collateral and Pirates of the Caribbean will begin scripting a third version of the G.I. Joe script.
The director of The Mummy working with the writer of Pirates on G.I. Joe? Is it just me or is this a match made in Heaven?
