USA Today is reporting that Paramount and Dreamworks are going HD-DVD exclusive and are dropping Blu-Ray from their product lineups. This comes as somewhat of a surprise considering the traction Blu-Ray has been gaining in recent months over the rival HD-DVD format, but it certainly could make things a lot more interesting as major films like Shrek 3 and Transformers will now be exclusive to HD-DVD (aside from standard DVD). Allegedly, the high cost of Blu-Ray players was a major factor in this HD-DVD exclusivity deal, and with HD-DVD players already available for under $299, it seems as if the hi-def format war may drag on a little longer than anyone expected.
