KipKay, over at Instructables, has managed to turn a mini-Maglite into a handheld laser with the laser eye from a DVD burner.
This project involves some soldering and specialized parts, so beware it’s not for everyone. This is a dangerous object as well and should be treated as you would any weapon. It can be used to ignite materials, so never point it at another living thing and for the love of everything holy do not look into it! This laser was hot enough to light a match and pop a balloon, I don’t think you’d want something like that in your eyes.
