Well, the first thing that catches the eye is the sixth and final issue of Amazons Attack. I admit I’ve been missing this hit Will Pfeifer series - waiting for the trades - but every issue seems to include a breakneck twist if the covers are any indication; this one features soldiers fighting Amazons while Wonder Woman takes on her mother Amazon-style. I’m really curious to see what exactly the implications of this event are in the mainstream DCU.
It should be noted that Amazons Attack ties in directly with Outsiders: Grace/Wonder Woman. I’m assuming this final crossover will solidfy the Outsiders new line-up - I just hope its good, as my interest is somewhat waning without Captain Boomerang on the team (though I don’t know how long that development will last). Weirdly enough, what’s Wonder Woman doing here? Is she joining the Outsiders? Isn’t one Leaguer (Batman) enough?
Teen Titans #50 boosts one helluva a creative team, with several writers, including Geoff John and Marv Wolfman, as well as a just-as-grand art team including Marv’s frequent collaborator, George Perez. The comic not only has the team burying one member but finding another, as well as introducing a new threat. But I gotta ask - what’s worse than Deathstroke and Titan’s East? That’s gotta be some villain.
I gotta give Avengers: The Intiative #5 credit for hyping an even bigger development in the midst of the hype-or-miss World War War - Mutant Zero, a mysterious figure not listed among the 198. The solicitations for this month read: “And, most importantly, the Superhuman Armed Forces wishes to dispell all rumors of a 199th mutant. We repeat, there is no Mutant Zero. Mutant Zero does NOT exist. That is all.”
The Frightful Four get more than they bargined for in Fantastic Four #549, as Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman finally return to the team after their post-Civil War hiatus. Meanwhile, Black Panther #30 wraps up the Marvel Zombie crossovers that has the interim FF leader fighting Marvel Zombies, Skrull Zombies and Galactus Zombies. Anyone else think this is getting a little repetious?
And what the hell is Spider-Man: One More Day, the new crossover which could bring major changes for Peter, MJ and Aunt May? Do you really want to know? Too bad, because instead of telling you, Marvel wants to sell you a SKETCHBOOK before the series actually debuts in a couple weeks. This is the kinda thing you put in Wizard, not the extra item you price-gouch anxious fans with.
And lastly, World War Hulk: X-Men #3 looks to be memorable if only to see Juggernaut fight Hulk. Still, since Hulk’s beaten everyone and anyone whose stood in his path, this crossover - like Marvel Zomebis - is starting to get a bit long in the tooth . . . errrr . . . sword.
