    The Skrull List
Posted by Richard Pulfer on Jul 20th, 2007

Here a Skrull. There a Skrull.

Who’s a Skrull in the Marvel Universe? Bendis has laid out the expectations - look for anyone with a flimsy resurrection. So just who could be a green shapeshifter in disguise? I’ve laid out a list.

The Cages - Yep, the child of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage is a Skrull, or at least part of one. This means one of two things. Either Jessica or Luke is a masquarding shapeshifter, or they’ve been raising a midget Skrull all along.

Personally, I vote for the midget Skrull - that’s just wrong.

In all seriousness, I doubt Luke Cage is a Skrull - he lead the confrontation that outed Elektra as a Skrull in the first place. But its very possible that Jessica Jones - who was on the sidelines during much of New Avengers and Civil War - could have been abducted and replaced during all the commotion.

Spider-Woman: The big reveal from the latest New Avengers is that Spider-Woman - Jessica Drew - is a Skrull, her eyes flashing green as she carries away the body of Elektra’s alien imposter.

This is an odd surprise, considering how stock Bendis has already put into the character. However, she’d been a double-agent for quite some time, bouncing between allegiances to HYDRA and SHIELD, and ultimately, Cap’s Resistance. Its possible she could been replaced during one of these change-overs.

Clint Barton, Ronin - Listed as the “prime suspect” by Bendis, the former Hawkeye does have a pretty convoluted story to tell - having been resurrected by the very person who killed him, Scarlet Witch. However, some of Bendis’ assurances - that the Skrull war won’t be a recon of Civil War - casts doubt on this turn of events. In issue #3 of Fallen Son: The Death of Captain America, Barton returns and takes over the mantle of Captain America, but is quickly shamed by his own successor, Kate Bishop. It seems doubtful Marvel would want to recon such a iconic moment at this, so I’m guessing Barton really is back.

However, this doesn’t mean another Clint Barton - a Skrull unaware of Barton’s return - could have approached the New Avengers in disguise.

Tony Stark - Most New Avengers are looking at this guy - after all, wouldn’t it all make sense if Tony Stark was an alien all along? Obviously, this isn’t the case - the Skrull development are not in any shape or form (or shapeshift) the reasons behind the Civil War.

However, this is not to say that a Skrull could have taken Tony’s place during the recent Ultron debacle in Mighty Avengers. How else could Tony had turned so bizzarely into a smoking hot version of Ultron if he hadn’t been a Skrull at that time. But it seems Tony Stark - optimistic as ever about the effects of World War Hulk - is alive and well in the Marvel Universe, leading me to question what exactly happened in Marvel Universe.

That’s it for this week, but I’m sure we’ll have plenty of guesswork for you next month.
