Time reported that the three cretors of ConnectU are trying to shut down Facebook charging that Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg stole their code while they were all attending Harvard together.
Zuckerberg allegedly agreed to finish the code for their site, but repeatedly stalled and later created Facebook using their ideas. Fraud, misappropriation of trade secrets, and copyright infringement are all allegations in the lawsuit. ConnectU has asked the courts to give control of Facebook and its assets to ConnectU’s founders.
Facebook has asked that the courts dismiss the lawsuit. A hearing is set for Wednesday, August 1st. Facebook’s attorney, in court filings, said that ConnectU has no evidence and that Zuckerberg was the only one of the four that “had an idea significant enough to build a great company”.
Facebook started in 2004, only months before ConnectU launched. That gave Facebook a huge advantage and now they have over 31million users to ConnectU’s roughly 70,000. Facebook has turned down an offer of over $1billion from Yahoo Inc. To the knowledge of Way of the Geek, no offers have been made for ConnectU.
