Once a year, in the town of Barrow, Alaska, for one month the night lasts for 30 days. While the darkness is something the residents of Barrow have grown accustomed to, this year won’t be like the rest. A horde of vampires invades the little town and turns its streets into a feeding ground. The local sheriffs, a husband and wife team, will be faced with a deadly decision. Save themselves, or save the town.
That’s the basis of ‘30 Days of Night’, a comic series by Steve Niles. The film by the same name is set to be released on October 19th, 2007 and has Hard Candy director David Slade manning the wheel. Niles collaberated with screenwriters Stuart Beattie and Brian Nelson to bring his sinister characters to the big screen.
Josh Hartnett (Sin City, Lucky Number Slevin) and Ben Foster (X-Men: The Last Stand, Alpha Dog) seem to be the two big names in this film, both with fairly impressive resumes. The film will be flying the flag of Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures company, who also one of the producers on the film. Let’s see if Raimi’s “golden touch” for comic book movies can carry over for such a deserving comic.

I’m hoping it’s a hit; I’ve got the short-run trade paperback signed by the creators. It could really go up in value if the movie goes big.

Hmmm. A vampire flick backed by Raimi, eh? I’m up for it! But then again, that’s no real surprise.
