Interesting revelations coming out of the cons have lead me to believe there is going to be some interesting things in the background of a quite a few books.

First off, Sub Diego is back in this month’s Aquaman: Sword of Atlantis. The underwater section of San Diego, introduced in Will Pfeifer’s world-shattering look at pre-Infinite Crisis Aquaman is back in the spotlight, this time under the control of what the soliciations describe as “Aquaman’s most formidable foe”.

And speaking of Will Pfeifer, his latest Catwoman promises plenty of violent revelations for Selena Kyle as well as “reverberations . . . will be felt throughout the DCU.” Could we be seeing another Countdown connection?

If you want to get a drop on some of the major events hitting the Marvel Universe, check out Annihilation: Conquest Prologue #1. Recent revelations have seen the Marvel heroes – already divided after Civil War – under the threat of interstellar enemies on multiple fronts. One of them comes from the Skrulls, who aren’t looking to healthy after the first Annihilation, and who are featured in this outer space adventure.

The Hulk – not to be outdone by those mean green shapeshifters – is appearing in quite a few titles this month as he attacks New York City with a rage. Ghost Rider #12 has Johnny Blaze out to lend a helping hand, but how will the spirit of vengence react to an enemy who has every right for vengence on some of the world’s greatest heroes?

Heroes For Hire #11 has former B-villain Humbug trying to wield his bug powers against two of Hulk’s not-of-this-Earth buddies, Merik and Brood. I’ve always liked the underdog of Marvel Comics – especially when they are redeeming villains – so this is one fight which might prove interesting.

Incredible Hulk #107 features boy genius Amadeus Cho trying to form a team of Champions to side with the not-so-jolly green giant attacking New York City. We don’t know what side they’re on, but Hercules, who saw some serious action Civil War, Namor, who defended Hulk before his exile and Angel are all mentioned in the solicitations, so expect quite a few guest stars.

And poor Tony Stark can’t catch a break. Sure, he’s a jerk to almost everyone in Civil War, but this is just sadistic. He’s turned into a hot female Ultron in Mighty Avengers, been presumed dead by his own armor, seen decapitated by a symbiote in a recent cover preview, and then has his block knocked off again by the Hulk in this week’s issue of Iron Man. Of course, I’m enjoying every minute of it.

And if that wasn’t enough, X-Men: Endangered Species, the next big storyline for Marvel’s Mutants, which promises to shake the corners of the M.U. with far too many deaths for my tastes, also ships this week as well.

Well, there you have it. Between Skrulls, symbiotes, World War Hulk and Endangered Species, Marvel has DC beat to a bloody pulp . . . for this week at least.
