An article posted over at The Last Boss reveals that small gaming chain Rhino is being bought by megachain GameStop. And when I say small, I mean only seventy stores nationwide.
I enjoy shopping at both stores, but Rhino has always been more of a pure gamer’s haven. At least in the Jacksonville shop, they don’t try to sell me used DVD’s or any of the other useless trinkets that clutter up the average GameStop. The selection of used games is also greater and more eclectic since they don’t sell all that other junk. Most importantly, the staff is much nicer and generally better informed (not to say that the staff and my local GameStop are knuckle-dragging jerks, though).
I’ll be sad to see the Rhino absorbed into the ‘Stop. Even though Rhino’s a chain (albeit a small one, as stated earlier), it still had that Mom and Pop aura to it. I guess I’ll have to give them a visit this weekend one last time, as I doubt mine will stay open (the existing GameStop is only five minutes away) after the sale.
