PS3 and Wii to be scarce in 2007?
Posted by Shawn M. on Dec 26th, 2006

That’s right, kiddos, it looks like Sony’s elves and Nintendo’s Koopa Troopas will be hard pressed to meet consumer demand for the majority of the new year. With the PS3 launching in Europe in 2007, expect that to diminish the number of units American retailers will have access to. As for the Wii, production will remain steady, but don’t expect stores to hold onto them very long once they reach the shelves.

Don’t worry, though. If you haven’t gotten you next-gen funbox yet, keep this in mind — current gen games are cheap now, so that should help pass the time. And if that won’t suit you, XBox360’s are plentiful and just begging to be bought.

    Hope you like First-Person Shooters!

It isn’t just the consoles, either - judging by the hellish time I had hunting up a Nintendo DS this Christmas shopping season, that’s likely to be a rara avis too… and this is a portable that’s been out for over a year already!

Maybe the fact the DS is now the top gaming platform in Japan (consoles included!) has something to do with its sudden popularity explosion here? All I know is that the EBs and Wally Worlds in my area couldn’t seem to keep the bloody things in stock all during the Christmas rush, while 360s and PSPs were literally stacked ten deep on the shelves, ignored in the orgasm of consumeristic excess that is December in the retail biz. Weird, to say the least…

The reason why DS is so popular is because it has the games to back it up, while the PSP has… what does the PSP have? Two Grand Theft Auto games? Once people can start downloading PS1 titles to their PSP’s, that may give the system a bit of life-support… but then again, the only way that’s possible is if the person has a PS3 to download the games.
