Those of you hoping to get your mitts on a shiny new PS3 may want to - once again - think twice about the idea. Especially if you’re looking to replace your PS2 with it.

To what I hope is the surprise of no one, there have been problems reported with the backwards-compatibility software - everything from non-working audio to video glitches in the older titles. Sony has, naturally, offered to fix the problems via an online upgrade patch… still, this is yet another black eye on the PS3’s reputation, at a time when Sony can ill-afford them following the steep $599USD street price, repeated delays (the PS3 was slated to go on sale around last Christmas), and Sony’s just plain evil corporate nature returning to the forefront via the whole rootkit flap.
Just another example why you should always avoid the temptation to score a new console on its launch date…
