This has been quite a ten-day period for new releases. First Microsoft trots out IE7, then Adobe unveils Flash 9 for Linux, then Firefox 2.0 goes final, and just today it’s learned that the latest rendition of Ubuntu, version 6.10 (”Edgy Eft”) is now out of beta and ready for public consumption.
Get it from the usual places, if you’re so inclined:
Ubuntu (GNOME default desktop)
Kubuntu (KDE default desktop)
Xubuntu (Xfce default desktop)
Also, the Automatix script, which you’ll definitely want if you’re new to Linux and/or Ubuntu, has been updated for 6.10 as well.
For those who’d rather pass on Edgy and wait for the next step up, the next major upgrade from Ubuntu, 7.04 “Feisty Fawn,” is currently timetabled for an April 2007 release.
