Yesterday, I reported that the Wii would be region-free. This is what Nintendo’s Perrin Kaplan told Wired News. As it turns out she had never recieved a memo stating any close to what was told to the press. In actuality, she the memo she recieved stated the exact opposite. The Wii will not be region-free. The console and all first-party software will be region-locked.
Sorry for any confusion this may have caused, but don’t blame me. I can only report what others say and do.

Whether it is or is not region free doesn’t affect me - past history has shown that it’ll be worked around eventually in any case. It’s still the only one of the three eighth-gen* consoles I really want, Wiimote and all.
*-For clarification:
1st-gen: Pong systems
2nd-gen: Channel F, 2600, Odyssey2
3rd-gen: Intellivision, 5200, Colecovision
4th-gen: NES, SMS, 7800
5th-gen: TG16, Genesis, SNES
6th-gen: PSX, Saturn, Jaguar
7th-gen: Dreamcast, PS2, XBox
8th-gen: 360, Wii, PS3

Oops… forgot, the ‘Cube is also 7th gen, and N64 is 6th gen. My brain’s not working, I guess…
