Musician Jonathan Coulton has put out five albums in the past year. I know, that sounds like a lot, well it is a lot. You see, Jonathan has been working on a project that he named his “Thing a Week”, wherein he writes one song a week. He started back in September of last year and he just completed it Friday with #52 being a cover of We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions. “I’m sad and relieved that it’s the end.” he said on his website.
JoCo, as some fans have dubbed him, has become a bit of an internet phenomenon during his Thing a Week project. The songs were released under the Creative Commons license and played on about 120 podcasts, usually as they came out. Coulton also released his songs through his own RSS feed.
As far as I know, this is the first project of it’s kind and I’m impressed that anyone could crank out a song per week for a year straight. For more information on the Thing a Week, free music, and to learn more about Jonathan Coulton go to his website.
