Yeah, I know, my millions of devout followers have grown bitter and cold towards me for my lack of writing recently, I have been removed from all their christmas card lists and uninvited to the birthday parties. You all ripped your Hat Jones posters down and sold the action figures on eBay.
But, true believers, you should save me some fruit cake, bring out the clown, get some thumb tacks and put in a high bid, because I have returned. Do not blame this slump upon me, blame it on the incredible lack of anything decent that has come out in the past few weeks in the comic world. But it’s picking up, I promise. Last week we had some good stuff, two new GL issues (Hal Jordan’s and GL Corps), and that is enough to make believe more good will come.
As I read the shipping lists for this week, as always, I see that I am right. My brain is massive. Here we go:
DC 52 Week 20: I won’t write giant explinations of this one anymore because, well, I do that every week. I get sick of seeing it. Pretty much my reccommendation is: If you like DC enough to read more than one title, read DC every week. I’ll always mention it, but, from now on I’ll skip the description unless a real big issue comes about.
Flash - The Fastest Man Alive #04: Ah, here we go. I am really starting to like this series. I know most Flash fans are saying “Barry was cooler!”, but I never read Flash before this, so I don’t know how much badassery I’m missing out on, but, I do know that Bart is doing just fine in my opinion. Except for that horrid artwork. In this issue we learn the big secret of the speed force. I don’t know what that means, but, I think that 1. Someone will go very fast 2. We’ll learn how they do it. Since, as I said, I am very new to this character/lineage/persona, this is all very interesting to me. We’ll see if (ha, ‘if’) Bart does indeed assume the role passed on to him. Go read it. Forget all the previous Flashes there have been and try to embrace this as the new title it is.
Ion #06 (of 12): So those sneaky little torquoise Guardians of the Universe are once again moving about Green Lanterns like pawns in some big unseen chess game with no obvious opponent. It’s no wonder Hal Jordan snapped. In this one, The Guardians reveal a secret to Kyle and the role he will play in it. After six issues in, I’m glad they’re actually starting a cohesive plot. I’d say GL fans only for this one.
100 Bullets #076: I don’t remember if I’ve talked about this comic yet, but, I shouldn’t have to. You should have already read all of it. Go ahead. I’ll be here. Ready? Okay. Since you went and just read every issue, this is an issue you’ve yearned for desperately: WE FINALLY FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED IN ATLANTIC CITY. I know. Friggin’ awesome, isn’t it? Yeah, I’m jazzed, too. This will be an issue you do not want to miss at all. Seriously though, go buy the trades, read this series. It is one of the best things being written today. I swear by it.
Civil War #4 (of 7): It seems like we’ve waited years for this to finally pick back up. What happened in the last Issue, since no one remembers by now? The Pro- and Anti-Registrant groups met up to talk things over, a big ass battle ensues, and then BLAMO. There stands Thor. Yeah, M.F.in’ Thor returns. I have no idea what happens in this issue, because I don’t want to know. I just want to learn it as it goes. Go buy it. Read it. Civil War is incredible, and it ends all this damn post-Decimation milking that everyone is doing (Well, X-Factor does it okay). Everything is changing, so, be on top of it, people.
x-Factor #11: I love X-Factor. X-Factor is badass. But not everyone would probably like it as much as I do. I just have one thing to say: Madrox. One of the most indepth characters and personalities in the marvel universe and I think that more characters should be as layered as he is. Anywho, in this issue, we get to the bottom of Singularity Investigations big secret evil plot, and somehow everyone who isn’t a mutant might die. I have no idea either. Start from issue one, it’s low in numbers, give it a shot. You might enjoy it as much as I do.
Noteable books of interest that I am too lazy to write about:
Union Jack #1 (of 4)
x-Men First Class #1 (of 6)
Deadman #2
That’s it till this weekend when I write fuller reviews of a few of these and maybe do some salsa dancing. Who knows.
