For anyone who hasn’t been keeping an eye on Wizards of the Coast lately, there’s big news for the Star Wars line. The two-year silence has lifted, and Wizards have announced the Star Wars d20 RPG Saga Edition, containing upgraded and lightened rules and material for all six films as well as the Expanded Universe. This thread at the Wizards SW Forums contains quotes from authors of the new book. Some highlights:
* Massive changes to the way the Force works.
* Reduction in the number of skills by “folding” similar skills together.
* Reduction in the number of base classes by opening up far more customization options.
It seems to me that the people working on this edition were paying attention to the people who said D&D-style classes and skills didn’t work for Star Wars, and especially to the people who disliked the SWd20 1e & 2e Force setup.
The Star Wars d20 Roleplaying Game Saga Edition is slated for a 1Q 2007 release with an estimated POS price of $39.95 US for a full-color 288 page hardback. Yes, that’s more than before for almost 100 less pages, but that’s how it goes.
